A new play titled “The Stork and the Scarecrow” has been added to the repertoire of the Azerbaijan State Puppet Theatre.
Based on the play “The Scarecrow” by Slovak writer Jaroslav Vadorajkan, translated by Zumrud Guliyeva, this one-act children's performance is rich with heartwarming scenes that promote love and care for nature and animals.
The play is directed by Mushfig Aliyev, with stage design by Ravana Yagubova. The musical elements of the show highlight the harmony between humans and nature.
The story begins with a slightly melancholic yet meaningful episode. At the end of the harvest season, a scarecrow—abandoned by its owner—is left alone in the field. Refusing to accept this fate and feeling unwanted and forgotten, it decides to leave the land it had protected for years.
With the help of the wind, the lonely scarecrow travels to unfamiliar places and encounters a flock of storks preparing to migrate to warmer countries. One young stork, injured by a stone thrown by mischievous children, is left behind. The scarecrow takes it upon itself to care for the wounded bird.
Together, they spend the winter sheltered in the trunk of a dried-out tree. When spring arrives, the stork happily rejoins its flock.
In the end, the scarecrow realizes that there are other places besides the field where it can be of help. It joins the wind once again, continuing its journey to discover new lands.
