N. V. Gogol – "The Government Inspector"
Nikolai Gogol, a prominent figure of Russian literature, presents in The Government Inspector a theme that remains relevant across all eras.
Terrified by the rumored arrival of a secret inspector, the town’s elite mistake a young petty clerk from St. Petersburg — Ivan Khlestakov — for the official.
At first, Khlestakov is confused, but once he understands the situation, he gladly plays along. Pretending to be the inspector, he collects large bribes from the hypocritical and corrupt officials who are unfit for their jobs, and then flees the town.
After his departure, a letter he wrote to a friend is accidentally discovered, revealing the truth — the real inspector is only now arriving in the town.
The stage dairector of the play is Mikayil Mikayilov.
