Hamlet - Flamenco ballet

About event

On February 23, the stage of the Heydar Aliyev Palace will host the premiere of a Spanish flamenco ballet led by renowned dancer and choreographer Jesús Herrera.

“Hamlet, the Dance of the Melancholics” is a bold and ambitious new production by the master, inspired by William Shakespeare’s iconic tragedy. Returning to his hometown of San Sebastián, Herrera presented this two-act show at the Victoria Eugenia Theatre, marking a major milestone in his artistic journey.

After his earlier autobiographical works, the artist makes a powerful leap forward. His new production reflects maturity, artistic depth, and a refined focus on pure expression. The dancers’ movements captivate with their energy and precision. A particularly moving highlight is the lyrical duet between Hamlet and Ophelia — a tender, dramatic moment that resonates deeply with the audience.

“Hamlet, the Dance of the Melancholics” fuses the emotional expressiveness of flamenco with theatrical drama and rich musical accompaniment. The voices of the Orfeón Donostiarra choir and the passionate flamenco vocals add remarkable depth, bringing Shakespeare’s poetry to life.

Don’t miss this unforgettable evening of dance — a defining moment in the career of Jesús Herrera.
