The Central Botanical Garden was established in 1934 with the aim of preserving the plant species and gene pool existing in Azerbaijan’s flora. Alongside native Azerbaijani plant species, the garden also houses plant collections brought from various climatic zones around the world.
The main activities of the garden include enriching and researching Azerbaijan’s plant resources, preserving and protecting the gene pool of rare and endangered species growing both in different ecological conditions of the country and those imported from abroad, turning the garden into a unique natural recreation area for city residents and visitors, promoting achievements in botany and environmental science, managing and protecting the garden area, planting and maintaining greenery and plant species, and ensuring their preservation.
Currently, the Central Botanical Garden features modern greenhouses, a fountain, a restaurant, a children’s playground, a labyrinth, a lake complex, and a stylishly designed bridge equipped with a 650-meter-long elevator.
